Isaac Post Law PLLC primarily handles cases involving commercial-type disputes that require litigation in the courts. This is commonly called commercial civil litigation. A detailed description, with examples, of this practice area can be found here.
Isaac Post Law PLLC does not handle criminal matters, immigration cases, common family law matters (e.g. divorce, spousal support, child custody, adoption), personal injury cases (e.g. car accidents, slip-and-falls), bankruptcy matters, or the drafting of wills or trusts.
Yes. Isaac Post Law PLLC represents individuals or businesses in any legal dispute where money, property or legal rights are at stake.
This is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes a lawyer can help a client negotiate a settlement to a dispute before filing a lawsuit. Sometimes a lawyer can guide a client through private mediation, instead of going to court. Sometimes filing a lawsuit is not appropriate because arbitration is required by a party’s contract. Isaac Post Law PLLC has significant experience in handling such alternative methods of resolving disputes, as described here.
This, too, is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Different causes of action (e.g. breach of a written contract, fraud, defamation) have different time limits in which a lawsuit must be filed. These are called “statutes of limitations.” And each state has its own set of statutes of limitations for different causes of action. Many lawsuits fail because they are filed too late!
This depends on many factors. Typically, the least expensive aspect of litigation is the actual court filing fee which varies based on the court and type or amount of claim.
Isaac Post Law PLLC will work with clients to develop a cost-effective legal strategy and cost estimate on a case-by-case basis. But it is always important to remember that the adversarial nature of litigation means that our side only has influence over the cost of half of the case.
Again, this depends on many factors including the facts and circumstances of the case, the type of claim, the evidence presented and the views of the particular judge or jury deciding the case.
Isaac Post Law PLLC will always work diligently to get the best outcome for the client in any given case.
It depends. See the brief explanation at “I won in court. So why can’t I recover my attorney’s fees?”
Yes. Isaac Post Law PLLC handles all aspects of the appellate process in Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Yes. Isaac Post Law PLLC provides local counsel services to lawyers around the country who need to serve their clients’ interests in the courts of Virginia, the District of Columbia or the federal court in Alexandria (i.e. the E.D. Va.)
Simply put, it is the fastest federal civil trial court in the country, and has been for many years.
For example, according to 2023 U.S. government data, it took a median time of 16.4 months from filing to disposition by civil trial for a case filed in the E.D. Va (with courthouses in Alexandria, Richmond, Newport News and Norfolk). By contrast, the same interval took a median time of just over 3 years in the federal court in Maryland and over 4 years in the federal court in Washington, D.C.
The E.D. Va. achieves this because its judges have adopted – and strongly enforce! – truncated pre-trial procedural rules. This is why the E.D. Va. is colloquially known as the “rocket docket.”
Yes. Isaac Post Law PLLC can help small businesses by, for example, reviewing a contract before the owner signs his name to it, by offering edits to an existing contract or by drafting a contact that is appropriate for the business’s needs.

No and yes. Commercial litigation is complex and no case or set of circumstances is sufficiently like another to make it feasible to take a case on a contingency basis. As every circumstance is unique, Isaac Post Law PLLC will work with a potential client to see if an alternative fee arrangement, including pro bono representation, is feasible.
